Planes:

Midland International Air and Space Port is located between the cities of Midland and Odessa, approximately 140 miles north of Alpine. Once you arrive, see the driving directions from Interstate 20, below.

El Paso International is approximately 190 miles west of Alpine. Once you arrive, see the driving directions from the west on Interstate 10, below.

Alpine-Casparis Municipal Airport (www.airnav.com/airport/E38) is a public-use airport, operated by the City of Alpine (cityofalpine.com/airport), serving small commercial or private aircraft. It is located about two miles northwest of downtown Alpine on N Hwy 118.

Automobiles:

Four highways run through Alpine. The east-west Highway 90 and the north-south Highway 67 join together to form the Holland Avenue and Avenue E one-way streets, leading towards Marfa to the west and Marathon to the east, after 67 splits north towards Fort Stockton. Highway 118 (Cockrell Street in town) goes south to Terlingua and Big Bend National Park, while Highway 17 (North 5th Street) goes north to Fort Davis.

Driving from Interstate 20 (Midland/Odessa and beyond) :

  • Exit at Monahans and turn south (left) onto Highway 18.
  • Drive south through Royalty and Grandfalls.
  • When you reach Fort Stockton, turn west (right) onto Interstate 10 (IH10) and continue following the next set of instructions.

If you are driving from the east (San Antonio/Austin and beyond) on Interstate 10:

  • About ten miles west of Fort Stockton (at the sign to Sul Ross State University and Big Bend National Park), exit IH10 and turn south (left) onto Highway 67.
  • You will begin to see mountains on the horizon to the south and west.
  • Forty-seven miles south of IH10, Highway 67 meets Highway 90, turn west (right) onto Highway 90.
  • About eight miles later, you will enter Alpine.

If you are driving from the west (El Paso and beyond) on Interstate 10:

  • Turn south at Van Horn onto Hwy 90. Drive east through Valentine and Marfa until you get to Alpine (26 miles west of Marfa).
  • Once in the city, Highway 90 splits into two one-way streets. The one-way to the south becomes east-bound Holland Avenue and the one-way to the north becomes west-bound Avenue E.
