The City of Alpine’s 2025 #AlpineTXPhoto Contest is now closed.
Winners will be announced in mid-November, 2025.
The 2025 #AlpineTXPhoto Contest invites photographers from far and wide to capture the essence of Alpine and its surroundings. Celebrating its fifteenth consecutive year, this annual contest showcases the town’s vibrant spirit and scenic wonders through the lens of talented individuals.
Free and open to the public, the contest deadline is September 30 of each year.
Photographers are encouraged to explore Alpine and its immediate surroundings: the downtown area with its charming facades, local businesses, and vibrant murals; details of small town life in Alpineās parks and neighborhoods; and the picturesque landscapes between Alpine and our neighboring towns.
The top winner of the 2025 #AlpineTXPhoto Contest will be awarded a cash prize of $500, recognizing their exceptional talent and vision. In addition, four other winners will be selected, each receiving prizes of $100 and $50 respectively. This contest is free and open to the public, welcoming both residents and visitors to participate and contribute to the vibrant visual narrative of Alpine.
We are pleased to announce that the 2025 #AlpineTXPhoto Contest Judge is KARA GERBERT!

A resident of Brewster County for over 30 years, Kara Gerbert came to Alpine as a student at Sul Ross State University. Having deep roots in the community, her dad having been born and raised here, Alpine quickly became home. Earning degrees in Biology and Veterinary Technology, animals have always been a primary interest, and the focus of most of her photography.
Although she had a camera for most of her life, her genuine interest in photography began when she first viewed a photo taken by Wyman Meinzer of a bobcat. This sparked a fire that still smolders today, as Kara is currently the Managing Editor of the Alpine Avalanche, and her photos appear almost weekly in the local newspaper.
Her photos have also been featured on CNN Headline News and True West Magazine, and she frequently shares them on social media for friends and family to enjoy.

Entrants have the chance to win one of the following cash prizes.
- H.L. Kokernot, Jr. Memorial Award – $500
(named in honor of the creator of the remarkable Kokernot Field, home of the Alpine Cowboys baseball team) - Henry Charles Trost Memorial Award – $100
(named in honor of the principal designer for Trost & Trost, architects of the historic Holland Hotel and many other signature buildings throughout the region) - Twin Sisters Award – $50
