The annual Wildlife Weekend centers on the theme of owls this year, offering a deep dive into the lives of these elusive nocturnal predators. The weekend serves as a bridge between the scientific community and the public, providing a rare opportunity for residents and visitors to engage directly with experts from organizations like the Borderlands Research Institute and Texas Parks & Wildlife.

The focus expands to encompass a broader spectrum of the Trans-Pecos ecosystem throughout the weekend with hikes on Hancock Hill, bird walks, family-friendly activities at the local farmers market and wildlife-themed offerings from downtown businesses. The educational programming culminates in a series of keynote presentations and panel discussions held at the historic Granada Theatre. By blending technical research with accessible storytelling and practical workshops, such as sessions on nature photography and even culinary demonstrations involving invasive species, Wildlife Weekend fosters a comprehensive understanding of stewardship.
