Black Bears
Diet: Fresh leaves, fruits, berries, nuts, roots, tubers, succulents, grubs, insects, and small mammals
Characteristics: Fur is usually black, but can be cinnamon, brown, or blond. A relatively docile species unless threatened or protecting cubs. They go into semi-hibernation (slowed metabolic state) January through March.
Fun Fact: A black bear’s diet consists of up to 90% plant material!

Plants pollinated by bats: Bananas, peaches, avocados, mangoes, guava, corn, vanilla, cotton, balsa wood, and agave
Fun Fact: Pallid bats hunt on the ground and eat mostly scorpions!

Bighorns
Diet: Grasses, shrubs, cacti, acacia, and flowering plants
Characteristics: Climb steep, rocky terrain. Can go without water for long periods of time. Rams (males) and ewes (females) both grow horns. Rams battle for mates during rutting (mating) season.
Fun Fact: Desert bighorn sheep use their horns to break open cactus to eat!
