Sprites, Ghosts, Elves, and More: Photographing Earth’s Strangest Electrical Phenomena
On rare occasions under dark night skies, high above powerful thunderstorms, strange flashes of red and blue light suddenly appear in the night sky in unusual jellyfish-like shapes. Known to science as sprites, these lightning-related events are still poorly understood. In this talk, we’ll explore how these events form, how you can see and photograph them for yourself, and how you can contribute to scientists’ efforts to understand them.
The Opening Reception for Alpine Photo Weekend is June 12 (see separate Event listing).
