“On the first Thursday of each month, Create Space Art Studios in Alpine, Texas hosts a figure
drawing session rooted in observation, curiosity, and shared presence. These evenings bring
together a artists from across the State—artists at every stage of experience—who gather to study the human form and, in doing so, better understand their own humanity.

Each session begins with the model. We work with local models who feel drawn to the creative
endeavor of nude modeling, and their presence sets the tone for the evening. The relationship between artist and model is quiet, respectful, and professional. From that still center, the room comes alive with focused attention.

We open with a 15-minute Tip & Tricks tutorial led by artists with depth of experience and
exceptional skill. This brief introduction offers newer artists a solid footing while giving
seasoned drawers something fresh to consider as they begin their work.

The drawing itself unfolds in stages. The model starts with a series of 30-second poses,
encouraging quick eye–hand connections and loosening everyone up. These are followed by one- minute poses, then three-minute poses, allowing form and gesture to begin taking shape. A five- minute break gives the model time to rest while artists stretch, talk, and reconnect with one another.

After the break, we return to a sequence of five-minute poses, which feel surprisingly expansive
after the earlier rapid studies. The modeling concludes with longer poses of ten to fifteen
minutes, offering artists the opportunity to develop more resolved and considered drawings.

At the end of the session, we gather to share favorite drawings from the evening and talk about
what worked and what didn’t. This is often the most joyful part of the night. The conversation is generous, thoughtful, and affirming, and it is here that the group coheres into a genuine
community of mutual support and shared interest. People tend to linger, slow to leave, enjoying the pleasure of unhurried connection.

The cost to attend a figure drawing session is $20, which helps cover the model’s fee and
drawing supplies. That said, we never want money to be the reason someone does not attend. We would much rather you come draw with us and become part of the artist community than stay away due to financial constraints.

This is Create Space’s third year of hosting figure drawing sessions, and we are deeply grateful
